Sunday, 20th July

First day ! Some arrived by train, others by plane, some in the morning, some in the afternoon. We were eventually reunited for an early dinner at 6:00 pm.

Then we went to a park to get acquainted, learn everyone’s name, and set up our collective agreements. Some went to bed while others kept on visiting the park and saw a few foxes !

Monday, 21th July

Today, we took the tube to begin our little adventure ! We went to Canary Wharf, an impressive place with many skyscrapers. We started by visiting the Museum London Docklands, a museum about the history and role of London docks — it was really interesting.

After lunch (and a quick food run), we did a fun challenge in the afternoon : asking strangers for their signatures and getting them to tell us stories. Then we went back home and enjoyed a well-deserved rest.

We wrapped up the day with some evening games. It was raining so we couldn’t go outside. Instead, we went to the hostel’s lounge and played a game where we had to invent stories based on random cards with images. A full and fun day !

Bonus : in the evening, some of us went « fox-sighting ». On this picture you can see the London skyline in the back, and a fox on the forefront !

Tuesday, 22th July

It rained a lot today. In the morning we visited the neighbourhood and made several stops for an activity. Last week, the group prepared transmission projects and we did the activities they had prepared : a quizz about « stones » you can find in the park (slates, tiles, cement...), a memory game about foxes, an explanation about how the docklands were filled with rubble, etc.

We ate picnic at the hostel as it was raining outside, then we took the Tube to go to the Museums area. Some visited the Natural history museum while others went to the Science museum. Everyone enjoyed the visit.

In the evening we talked about our day, we did the « words of the day » and played « Times’ Up » with the words of the day. Finally some went fox-sighting while others chilled at home.

Wednesday, 23th July

This morning, we started the day with an African dance to wake up. Then it started to rain, so we went inside.

After a short break, we began the volunteering at Stave Hill Ecology Park. We put on Wellington boots and got ready. The goal was to help create a new pond buy putting clay on the ground so it doesn’t leak.

We took shovels and put clay into wheelbarrows. Then we brought it to a spot where we could puddle the clay ,we stepped on it with our feet to make it more dense and moist. We did this for about one hour, with music and good vibes !

After that, we filled more wheelbarrows with clay and used trowels to place the clay at the bottom of the future pond. We did that for another hour. At the end, we were very dirty and tired !

For lunch, we ate a pasta salad, then we chilled to get our energy back. The boys went to play football. In the evening, we had more pasta for dinner with veggie meatballs and chocolate cake.

After dinner, we took the Tube to go downtown. The tide was low so we could walk on the foreshore and take funny pictures. We also saw the Millenium Bridge, and took photos of it with St Paul’s Cathedral in the background. We kept on walking and eventually took a bus to go home. It was a long but nice day !
